Located 250km north of Cape town this wine region represents the Cape's highest and most westerly vineyards. Orange groves line the riverbank alongside fields of Rooibos tea bushes. The red sand and alluvial soil along with cooling Atlantic breezes provide excellent growing conditions for the Sauvignon Blanc grape.
With the assistance of modern technology in state-of-the-art wineries, the Olifants River Valley is now emerging as an exceptionally good Sauvignon Blanc producing region of South Africa. The wine region of Stellenbosch is situated 50km east of Cape Town. It is home to the historic town of Stellenbosch (which dates back to 1679) and the world-famous University of Stellenbosch. This region is the second oldest wine region in South Africa and is set in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
A warm and dry growing season and a variety of soils results in the production of high-quality wines, mostly reds. Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well here. Paarl is renowned for its scenic beauty, viticulture and fruit growing. Situated 60km north east of Cape town, it is an extremely important wine region in South Africa. Paarl enjoys a warm climate with a Mediterranean influence and has a mix of sandy, granite and shale soils.
These factors coupled with the aspect of the Simonsberg Mountain provide great growing conditions for the Shiraz grape. This results in wines of great individuality and character. Our Eden Lodge Paarl Shiraz is full and powerful packed with rich blackberry flavours along with spice, plum and eucalyptus. A wonderful accompaniment to hearty beef dishes.
The cool and temperate West Coast climate lends itself to a variety of different Micro and Meso Climates which along with the different soil types leads to unique grapes and unique wines. 90% un-irrigated bush wines is as close to what nature intended for grape to be.
Light Pomegranate in colour, ripe strawberries, sweet cherry and raspberries on the nose with a lingering fruity aftertaste.
